Outings Leader 0-Level

Explore Michigan's natural places while sharing your knowledge and enjoyment of the outdoors with others.

Becoming a Outings Leader for the Sierra Club is a rewarding experience. The leadership skills - and confidence -- that you develop have been known to extend beyond hiking into professional and personal lives. Leading an outing means that you design trips that reflect your interests and passions.

Sierra Club outings range from social activities, such as going to dinner and a movie, to extreme mountaineering and everything in-between. Most outings are led at the O-level, which is on trail and "uncomplicated" (including bike rides, city walks, trail hikes not requiring extensive navigation skills).

What Are The Qualities Needed For 0-Level Leadership? Judgment, inspiration, awareness and current membership in the Sierra Club are the most important qualities in a leader. Fitness level, gender, skin color, sexual orientation, religion, income and educational level do not matter. We welcome and encourage people from all backgrounds to become outings leaders! The more diverse our leaders are, the more diverse are the outings we can offer!

Prospective 0-Level Leaders must meet the following basic requirements:

Be a current Sierra Club member (if you're not, join today! https://www.sierraclub.org/michigan) Be at least 18 years of age Complete Basic (or a higher level) First Aid training Complete the Sierra Club Outings Leader Training (offered online or in person) Complete any other training required by Chapter Outings Chair Have appropriate skills for the activities planned

Upon submitting this application you will be contacted by the Chapter Outings Chair, Cecilia Garcia-Linz to learn more about this role.
