Toiyabe Chapter Treasurer


The Chapter Treasurer is responsible for managing and reporting upon the Chapter's finances and also supports the work of the Group treasurers.


At the Toiyabe Chapter, Sierra Club's regional team of staff and activists work to protect our public lands and water, wildlife refuges, forests, parks and wilderness for all, in Nevada and the Eastern Sierra from the Tahoe basin south through Death Valley. We are the region’s largest and most powerful volunteer grassroots conservation organization representing more than 20,000 members and supporters locally, and roughly 4,000,000 members and supporters nationwide. The treasurer supports the work of the Chapter by managing the Chapter's finances and reporting the financial status and any material anomalous activities or transactions. Responsibilities: Provide oversight and analysis of all financial transactions. Reporting the financial position of the Chapter’s c3 and c4 accounts to the Executive Committee during their monthly meetings. Assisting in the annual budgeting process, monitoring the budgets and reporting any material deviations. Ensuring cash reserves are maintained in compliance with the Chapter’s Reserve Policy. Properly segregating Foundation donations, Sierra Club Political Committee (SCPC) monies and regular Club donations and other funds by ensuring the Foundation and SCPC monies are not deposited in the Chapter’s c4 account. Paying financial obligations timely including quarterly subvention payments made to the Groups. Acting as liaison between the Group and ICO treasurers and the national office. Completing year-end financial information required by the national office. Seek reimbursements for c3 expenses. Maintain the bulk mail account. Qualifications: Prior Accounting experience, preferably with nonprofit finances. A basic understanding of the difference between C3 and C4 nonprofits. Availability to handle transactions on a regular and recurring basis. Availability to attend executive committee meetings which occur generally the fourth Thursday of each month starting from 6pm to 8pm. Availability to retrieve mail sent to the Chapter’s PO Box located in Reno, Nevada. Experience with Quickbooks, NetSuite, Google Docs and Google Sheets is preferable, but not required.
