Communication Team

Media Specialist with knowledge and expertise about how to change the narrative about an environmental issue. Best if members live in California.

The Stop Clearcutting California Campaign is looking for volunteers for the communication team. If you love forests and nature and are savvy about media, this is the committee for you!

California has beautiful forests, which are important to our water supply, addressing climate change, air purification, and wildlife. However, these benefits are reduced by aggressive clearcutting, a logging method that involves removing all vegetation, spraying with herbicide to prevent future growth, and planting conifer seedlings. The result is a same age, same species tree crop, which produces inferior wood and burns hotter and quicker if it catches fire. A conifer plantation is not as beneficial to humans and wildlife as a natural forest or a selectively logged forest with diverse trees and shrubs of different ages. Such a forest always sequesters and stores carbon, retains water, and purifies the air.

Clearcutting in California can be eliminated or reduced through legislation or regulations by the Board of Forestry or the California Air Resources Board. In order for these agencies to take action, the public must demand it.

We are looking for a few new members for our Communication Team, which has responsibility for the campaign messaging and brand, campaign website, and publishing biweekly blogs. We would like to develop a relationship with the press.

Other ways that the other campaign teams create a public demand for change include Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, letters to the editor, a biweekly blog, submitting comments on logging plans to CalFire, nurturing supportive relationships with other organizations.

Successful members have some of the following qualities:

knowledge of forests, state, and local government processes. experience getting coverage with print, radio, and TV markets writing skills good interpersonal skills organizational skills speaking skills responsible
