Sierra Club's Local Climate Actions Task Force seeks volunteer with WordPress skills

Our team needs someone with WordPress skills to help us maintain our Local Climate Actions Toolbox.

Our Toolbox website:

Our team creates and maintains web-based resources for climate activists. Our Local Climate Actions Toolbox presents examples of local climate actions (local legislation, agency rules, or community organizing) that reduce GHG emissions or sequester carbon. Our goal is to widely share these examples to stimulate and support activists in other locations. Each example includes a brief narrative description, links to published articles about the local action, contact information for the authors of legislation or agency rules, and other relevant information.

Your work with our team?

Our published examples of local actions typically include several links to on-line references, articles, and other information. Your work would be to monitor our WordPress site on a regular basis (at least once per month) for broken links. When broken links are found, you would review the entire post for context, search for and propose a suitable substitute link(s) to our team, and propose any needed changes to the post's narrative. When your proposed substitute link is approved, you would edit the WordPress post to remove the bad link and make any necessary changes to the post's narrative.

Qualifications:

  • Have a working knowledge of WordPress and experience creating and maintaining WordPress websites.
  • Work well both independently and with other team members.
  • Be cognizant of the causes and effects of the climate crisis, and of possible solutions.
  • Be curious and skilled at web-based research.
  • We prefer a junior or senior year college student or college graduate.

Please be sure to describe your skills and interest in the “More About Me” section of your profile and include links to WordPress websites that you've created and maintained. This will help us evaluate your skills, interests and experience as they relate to our team's needs and goals.

The Local Climate Actions Task Force:

Our team is a task force of Sierra Club California's Conservation Committee. We are working to mobilize and support local action to restore a safe and stable climate. This work represents a growing global movement calling for bold, transformative change. For more information about our work, please visit our Local Climate Actions website and our Toolbox.
