Executive Committee Member - West Los Angeles Group

Run for election to a dynamic team of activists working to make a difference in our community by advocating for Sierra Club values and priorities!

The West Los Angeles Group is managed by a dynamic team of activists who work to make a difference in our community by advocating for Sierra Club values and priorities. These activities may include social media, conservation efforts, outings, political work, membership services, and sound financial management.

Executive Committee members are selected by popular vote of Sierra Club members living in the communities of Beverly Hills, Culver City, Malibu, Santa Monica, and West Los Angeles

As leaders and decision makers of the West Los Angeles Group, it is important for Executive Committee members to contribute to the Group's perspectives on a wide range of issues of concern to the Sierra Club including environmental protection, social and environmental justice. For the Group to thrive, it depends on an Executive Committee whose members are actively working to ensure the health and success of the Group.

The Sierra Club's mission: To explore, enjoy and protect the planet. To practice and promote the responsible use of the earth's ecosystems and resources; to educate and enlist humanity to protect and restore the quality of the natural and human environment; and to use all lawful means to carry out those objectives.A healthy Group is essential to support it's efforts to protect, preserve, and enjoy the environment.

Expectations:

  • Understand and support the concept of "One Club", meaning that we work together, speak with one voice, and respect and support our different roles and responsibilities
  • Be able to succinctly communicate to others about what the Group does and why it is important
  • Attend (or sometimes call into) Executive Committee meetings six times per year
  • Work to recruit new members, retain members, and improve the diversity of Group membership
  • Determine your role within the Group and do your best to fulfill that role
  • Prepare for and attend the Executive Committee meetings; consider the interests of the entire Group when voting
  • Support and contribute to efforts to improve the financial health of the Group
  • Report back to their Group Executive Committee about your discussions and actions

We highly encourage all interested parties with diverse backgrounds to apply!
