Outings Leader
Share your passion for the outdoors by leading hikes, service projects and/or trips.Outings are paused thru 7/4 but will need leaders when we resume
After you've been hiking for a while and have become familiar with some of the trails, you may feel eager to share your enjoyment of the outdoors with others as a Sierra Club Outings Leader. The Leadership Training Committee (LTC) can give you the preparation you need for certification by the San Gorgonio Chapter Outings Chair as a qualified leader of safe, enjoyable outings.
Take that first step and save the date of April 12 to attend our Leadership Training Course at the San Bernardino County Museum for our basic Outings Leader Training. Then, plan to attend First Aid and wilderness basics on Saturday at 3 in the San Bernardino Mountains at the Sierra Club Keller Peak Ski Hut. Check out our outings on the chapter website and take some hikes with our current leaders. the Leadership Training Course is offered in the spring and fall.
What Are The Qualities Needed For Leadership?
Judgment, inspiration, awareness and current membership in the Sierra Club are the most important qualities in a leader. Fitness level, gender, skin color, sexual orientation, religion, income and educational level do not matter. We welcome and encourage people of all ages and from all backgrounds to become outings leaders! The more diverse our leaders are, the more diverse are the outings we can offer!
Why Be A Sierra Club Leader?
The leadership skills -- and confidence -- that you develop have been known to extend beyond hiking into professional and personal lives. Leading an outing means that you can set the destination, the participants and the pace.
The Leadership Training Program.
This program is conducted by the Leadership Training Committee (LTC). Check our website calendar for application link for the September training. In the meantime, hike with our trained leaders, learn about local trails and outings management from them, and hone your skills for becoming one of our next Outings Leaders!
