Background
The Stop Clearcutting California Campaign is a highly successful and active Grassroots Network Campaign with approximately 50 volunteers. The campaign seeks to educate the public on the negative impact of clearcutting by publishing letters to the editor, social media posts, and blog posts.
Clearcutting is the most destructive logging method, which involves removing all or nearly all trees and applying herbicide to completely eradicate remaining vegetation. In this way, a complex forest, that is home to a variety of flora and fauna, is replaced with tree plantations of single-age, single-species conifer seedlings. Tree plantations displace wildlife, degrade our waters, and remove important carbon sinks.
